August Artist: Jennifer Burford

Introducing our August 2008 Artist: Jennifer McCauley Burford

Jennifer Burford an artist from Germantown, TN is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree specializing in Art Education. With a love of all aspects of art she became a Visual Art teacher with Shelby County Schools. She is currently teaching Art I, Art III and Advanced Placement Studio Art at Collierville High School in Tennessee.
Jennifer has been working on her own artwork for several years now. Inspired by former Gulf Coast artist, Walter Anderson she creates bold, stylized linoleum prints that are individually hand water colored. Her designs are of plants, fruits and animals. With a newfound love of chalk pastels and Acrylics, Jennifer is also a landscape artist. Using bold color and strokes she works to create excitement in nature.
With balancing busy schedules of teacher, wife, mother of twins, and artist, Jennifer has teamed up with friend and fellow art teacher Annette Miller Smythe to encourage each other and help promote their artwork. In 2003 “Two Toads” was developed as their artistic business. “Two Toads” annually participate in the Double Decker Festival in Oxford, Ms.
Just a few of Jennifer's accomplishments include participation in The Tennessee Arts Academy, Agnes Scott College Advanced Placement Training for Studio Art, Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts- Outstanding Teacher Award, Who’s Who Among Americas Teachers, chosen as the Rotary Club Teacher of the Month for the month of March 2007 and most recently she was selected as Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction for excellence in teaching from the National Society of High School Scholars. Her Artwork has been selected to hang in local juried art shows such as the MGAL Autumn Show and WTAEA Teacher Art Exhibit.
